Research: Part 5/5 - Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, an American artist who was a leader in creating the Visual Art Movement. Andy, being drawn to media, news, and photographs, creates the art of painting by connecting celebrities to artistic expressions. He was also an author and the founder of Interview Magazine.

In the 1950's, he began showing the art of photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. His style was to show objects and relating them to advertisement. By the beginning of the 1960s, Warhol had become a very successful commercial illustrator. His usage of typography and many different sources of art greatly made him known world-wide.

I think that Andy's work is great, however his style doesn't match mine because it is not that artistic. I would say that he should make more pleasure in the paintings instead of making it a plain objects. However the usage of advertisement and celebrity art is very smart.

Research: Part 4/5 - Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Kandinsk is a Russian painter and art theorist. He is famously known for his abstract painting. Born in Moscow, he studied law and economics. in 1901 he founded Phalanx, an art group, which he taught students at. He also designed a special curriculum based on the analysis of color and form, developing the ideas stated in on the Spiritual side in Art. He focused on paintings that had colorful backgrounds and floating space in.

He saw abstract art as the ideal visual mode to express the "inner necessity" of the artist and to convey universal human emotions and ideas. I think that he does apply the emotion and artistic theory to his paintings by creating all sort of unique objects. His special objects resemble his thoughts and artistic thoughts.

I think that he does provide the necessary elements of his theory in his arts. Therefore, it is a good source of painting because it conveys his perspective of colors and space. I like the colors in his painting because the give the mood of living. With the weird abstract shapes, it becomes the inner part of a human mind that we see in those paintings.

Research: Part 3/5 - Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock, an American painter, is famous for being an abstract painter and using drip painting. As an art major, he enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety. He struggled with alcoholism but recovered after marrying the woman he loved, Lee Kranser, which influenced his life and made him success in his legacy.

In 1936, Pollock used the liquid paint, which he used as pouring one of several techniques on canvases. His love to natural art was his main goal with his paintings. Pollock used hardened brushes, sticks, and even basting syringes as paint applicators. He thought of applying a new dimension by poring paint to his canvas from all directions.

I think that Jackson Pollock is a very talented artist because he uses the creativity of creating a new dimension in his paintings. The element of randomness is also huge in his art. I think that he is successful in creating a great amount in details in a picture that look like a mess. I would prefer if things were easier to distinguish in his paintings, but other than that, his art is great.

Research: Part 2/5 - Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist, is one of the most popular artists in the 1900's. She is mostly known for her amazing self portraits. Frida lived in Coyoacán, a small Mexican city. Having Polio, her right leg was thinner than her left leg, leaving her to wear long colorful skirts. She also practiced boxing during her life before the accident

On September 17, 1925, Kahlo had a bus accident which affected her spinal cord and left her in a lot of pain for the rest of her life. This accident left her alone for long periods of time. As a result she began painting self portrait in various places. She described herself as lonely and knowing herself the most. Kahlo created at least 140 paintings, along with dozens of drawings and studies .In 1938, Kahlo had her first and only solo gallery showing in the United States. She, however, was not recognized until decades after her death.

Her arts used bright colors, dramatic symbolism and primitive style. She also included a lot of symbols such as monkeys and nature. Some of the painting are connected with lust as a symbol. Frida went after to Paris, where she sold The Frame to the Louvre. July 13, 1954, soon after turning 47, Frida died, days after writing "I hope the exit is joyful — and I hope never to return — Frida."

Project 6 - Our future

Project 6 Critique Form

What ideas did you incorporate into the piece?

In incorporated the idea of how humans will be in the future. With the concept of corrupt society, the future is horrible and broken with no rights.

Do you think the piece is successful? Why or why not?

Yes, I did all the necessary scenes and edits to make the video understandable.

What skills did you learn through working on this piece? How did you employ these
skills in your work?

I didn't necessarily learn that much because everything I did I already knew how to do.

What challenges did you face?

I faced the challenge of placing the sound effects at the exact point they are supposed to be.

Did you find a suitable resolution—if yes, what? If no, what would you change?

Yes, I think that the video includes all the necessary components, especially the special effects.

What revisions would your make if you were to do the work a second time?

I would make more explosions and plot to make it more awesome.

Project 5 Critique Form

skills in your work?
I learned how to use audacity, which was a goal of mine in the past.

What challenges did you face?
I faced the challenge of transferring the voice memos to my computer

Did you find a suitable resolution—if yes, what? If no, what would you change?
Yes I did, the soundtrack is well done in my opinion because it resembles a whole day in one minute.

What revisions would your make if you were to do the work a second time?
I would probably add more drama or action in the sounds.

Project 4 Critique Form

What ideas did you incorporate into the piece?

I incorporated the idea of a person who volunteered to be a nurse in Africa to help with Ebola. However when the person goes there, he gets infected. Therefore he is brought back to the US and is miraculously cured. After arriving home, the state tells him that he is not allowed to leave for 21 days just in case for a mistake with the doctor's results.

Do you think the piece is successful? Why or why not?
Yes, it shows the whole story clearly. I think that everyone could understand it.

What skills did you learn through working on this piece? How did you employ these
skills in your work?

I learned Photoshop and batching pictures. I also learned how to do a timeline with a frame-rate.

What challenges did you face?
The batching process took a while because I did not save while recording. Also the frame rate was off a little because I forgot to click add sequence.

- Did you find a suitable resolution—if yes, what? If no, what would you change?

Yes I found one by going online to check the problem. It was the batching.

What revisions would your make if you were to do the work a second time?
I would add more pictures in order to make a better frame rate for the video.

Research: Part 1/5 - Nadir Afonso

Nadir Afonso (December 4, 1920 – December 11, 2013) is a Portuguese geometric abstractionist painter. He studied painting in Paris and became one of the pioneers of Kinetic art. His art is based on observation and perception, not imagination. Afonso uses geometry and the bases of perceiving angles and circles into his art. His first piece or art was the painting he drew when he was 4, which was a circle. At that time, he began moving toward observed objects. Afonso started going from an inspiration period to another in 1949. After his period or learning, he moved back to his hometown in order to be isolated and focus in his arts. By his 50s, he was recognized internationally in Paris and New York.

I think that Afonso’s art shows us the feeling of geometry in life. Construction of geometry is always the base of things in everyday life. Trees are a stick and a circle, the building are rectangles, and posters are squares. I think that he influences these kinds of shapes because he likes using perfect shapes and apply it to his art. The feeling of environment show his inspirations of places in the world. There are paintings that show holy sites, buildings, cities, and sunsets.

I think that his art is strong because it makes many people feel like everything is fitting where it belongs. It could also help people with OCD. I would suggest putting more colors and definitely applying a background color because they are almost white all the time. I find the variety of colors in the paintings powerful because it makes each object distinguishable from the other.

Article Idea Mapped

Nurse -> Africa to fight ebola -> Sick -> back to treatment -> Survives -> test negative -> Governor still doesn’t let her out of her house -> ran away -> pursuit -> Court.

Tabaimo Response

Tabaimo’s art is quite unique. In my opinion, I think that she is very successful at showing the viewers what she means to communicate with them. Using different kinds of art media enables her to have different varieties in her art, such as the bathroom scene, the buildings, the flowers, and even the music. Tabaimo’s passion for music makes her want to make the music and show it rather than listening to it. Her animation creates the mood of her story, including the mood of color and silence. She connects her arts with her sensation, just like she explained the things under her skin moving.
Tabaimo uses an entire building to show her work, which makes a lot of space for her to acquire. I think that she compares many things and connect them together. For example, she explains that public bathrooms and the Internet are similar because each person has his own private place in a public place. I don’t usually see these kind of artists, but I think that she is very unique because she creates art combined with a story and mood in an animation.

I can say that she is successful because she illustrates what she wants to show, however I have trouble in getting the meaning, and also because some of them make me scared to look at. I think that she should change the music style and the creepiness of chopping up people and sinking babies in the toilet. Other than that it is an excellent form of art.

Project 3

Project 3

Project 3 Critique

What ideas did you incorporate into the piece?
I included the idea of scanning myself with sunglasses and using the scan in order to put my patters into a pattern so that it could become like my scan's details

Do you think the piece is successful? Why or why not?
I think yes, because I have set up all the patterns the I needed in order to illustrate my new pattern image to be my scan

 Self-Evaluation

- What skills did you learn through working on this piece? How did you employ these
skills in your work?
I learned how to use the Blob Brush Tool in order to make my patterns arranged/

- What challenges did you face?
I faced the challenge of the Paint Brush accidentally, struggled with color matching and making the image clear to identify, and how to show details in my image

- Did you find a suitable resolution—if yes, what? If no, what would you change?
Yes, I deleted a lot of objects and used the Blob Brush Tool and that fixed the object's issue. Then I edited the patterns to be in different colors, and that helped a lot.

- What revisions would your make if you were to do the work a second time?
I would make better colored patterns, and probably add a little more details.

The Internet Becomes the Art Medium

The Internet is a place where are human knowledge, achievements, arts, passions, and anything else can be stored in. Artists all over the world use society to show their works for recognition. Art is a language that can make people communicate their feelings, but there has not been many methods to do so. Throughout history, artists and painters have had limited recognition of their art work, which led to less success. As a result we do not hear much about past artists that might have succeeded in today’s world. But we do now have a powerful device that could change the way out lives work. Something that can make us be social and also interact with other all over the planet. This is called the Internet.

Today, we look at how the Internet is the ultimate information revealer. Any person can become a publisher and a producer without having to deal with the outside world. Anybody can become successful without telling a word about their creation. The Internet has made it incredibly easier for artists to introduce their new art to the world. Even the people can find the artist instead of the artist finding the people. People no longer need to go to museums to see their favorite artists. They don’t even have to pay for see them unless the artists require purchases.

Art has also expanded through the technology of the computer. People now share Photoshop ideas through the internet and make unique kinds of arts. Technology can now enable people to edit any art that they come up to, and that might be a bad side of the Internet technology. There is no easier thing to do than copying a face into another body and calling another person’s art you art. So the Internet is a huge advantage for people producing their creation, but it also has its cons with sharing art with any person that could easily manipulate it.

Ecstasy of influence: A Plagiarism Summary

Ecstasy of influence: A Plagiarism, is an article written by Jonathan Lethem. It gives us the facts and ideas of how plagiarism is seen by millions of people through history and how it differs from one category to another. The article gives examples of artists who use other’s work, quotes, ideas, music, etc. The idea of plagiarism can be seen as good or bad, but it really depends of how the relationship between the owner and the followers is.

The article shows us how corporations sue music downloaders, and how authors steal or “borrow” other author’s ideas and styles to apply it to their own story. It also explains how laws, such as American federal laws, have supported copyrights in order to protect artists. The author also goes into details of how copyright runs the world. He criticizes how distribution make money although, in reality, they are the ones who copy. He also illustrates that certain companies that distribute content, fearing the higher companies that they import from. Plagiarism is not necessarily bad, but it's not always good, As the article claims, some people influence others, and some people steal the influence from other. Artists sometimes end up turning against their audience, and companies end up suing their own record-buying people.

Clearly the author, by giving us specific cases and examples about authors, wants us to know that Plagiarism is not an easy issue to judge because it's rather very complex. He uses words such as “source hypocrisy”, explaining how people gather constellation of voices in their work. Deeper explanations begin to rise in the article when communism comes to role and gives the word property. It explains how people need property that they truly own in order to survive. The author also tries to tie in the aspect of gift economies, not in the essence of buying something, but by creating a connection between people. Lastly, the author goes into scientific perspectives of “undiscovered public knowledge”. The article can give us many explanations of how plagiarism works, and obviously there are lots of perspectives that are raised in the text.

Interviewing Wayne White

Ron: Hello Mr. Wayne. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.

Wayne: Hi, well you are supposed to act impressed, shouldn't you?

Ron: I guess that’s the case with some people. So beauty is embarrassing huh?

Wayne: Sadly it is. I think it is. And it is true. Nobody deserves to be beautiful unless they know how to use it properly.

Ron: So let me start by asking you a question. Since you are from Tennessee, a place where there are open landscapes and emptiness, what made you have the desire for art?

Wayne: Art doesn’t come from where or when you live, art is a lifestyle. It’s the spirit that you have in you. Artists like me are always trying to reach a world or a vision where art can be our lives. And let me tell you something, I reached that place. I live with art, I see everything as a special kind of art. It’s in me, twenty-four seven.

Ron: That is definitely a unique privilege to have. I noticed your passion to words. You use words in unique, and for most of the time, inappropriate ways. Can you explain this detail to me? I myself can’t have this artistic feeling toward words.

Wayne: Well to begin with, it is letters that amaze me, far more than words. And it is hard for people without artistic minds to process how I think. Ever since I was young, I always had this passion for letters. I feel like each individual letter has a different personality.

Ron: And you include comedy and humor in them, correct?

Wayne: Definitely, what would art mean to us without comedy? This is the best key to live with. Hell, I use comedy with what people call “bad words”.

Ron: I personally think that art can live without comedy. I see people who draw sad drawings, people who design electronically to create an artistic object. I don’t see comedy in that.

Wayne: You say that now, but you can never live without comedy. People would be simply depressed. I even took happy pills and anti depressants when I was young. So like I said, the art world needs someone with a sense of humor to play with it. It is begging for that person to come!

Ron: That’s a very meaningful theory, and I can see some truth in it. So here is my last question to you. Since you had many experiences, such as working with peewee’s playhouse, creating puppet shows, making sculptures with words, imitating your own congressman’s mask, creating the world’s biggest George Jones face, etc, what would you think your best art piece ever is?

Wayne: Definitely my word paintings, especially “The Beauty is Embarrassing”. You can’t beat that one since it has the most meaning.

Ron: No doubt about that. Thank you for the interview Mr. Wayne.

Wayne: You are most welcome, just keep up your comedy going.
